Work for Powervault: Business Development Manager

THE COMPANY

Powervault is a British company, headquartered in London. Our aim is to be the U.K.’s
leading domestic electricity storage provider by 2020 and to expand into global
markets. In 2014, we launched the first fully-integrated solar energy storage system
and are now developing a new ‘smart home’ energy storage system, which will provide customers
with the best return on investment available in the market.

Energy storage is an exciting and rapidly growing sector, which the U.K. government
has estimated will help to save the U.K. £8bn/year by 2030, enabling us to move
towards 100% renewable energy.

The company aims to help home-owners lower their electricity bills, increase their
energy security and reduce their carbon footprint. It’s an exciting time at
Powervault, having just raised over £1.8m in our latest crowd funding round. The Business Development Manager will play a key part in supporting our rapid expansion plans.

THE ROLE

The Business Development Manager will lead the Distributor and Installer channel and be accountable to the Managing Director for delivering the sales targets in this channel. The Business Development Manager will be supported by a Business Development Associate. The successful Business Development Manager candidate will be responsible for activities such as:

  • Owning the sales and marketing budget for the Distributor and Installer channel and achieving its sales target
  • Managing and developing existing relationships with Distributors and Installers to grow sales within the channel
  • Identifying new business opportunities, managing a pipeline of leads, and growing sales by extending Powervault’s network Distributors and Installers
  • Negotiating contracts with new Distributors and large partners
  • Developing the proposition and product marketing, and contributing to product development plans
  • Developing a marketing plan to drive sales amongst Distributors and Installers
  • Managing general PR to raise Powervault’s profile amongst Distributors and Installers
  • Managing and working with the Business Development Associate to help achieve the sales target in the Distributor and Installer channel
  • Supporting and training the Business Development Associate to develop their sales and marketing skills

Candidates will need to demonstrate experience in a role with these functions. Knowledge of the electricity sector, battery technology and consumer product development is helpful but not essential.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Potential candidates will be expected to exhibit some or all of the following characteristics:

  • The ability to deliver to target an early-stage product to a nascent industry while working under typical start-up constraints and pressures
  • The ambition to exceed the sales target and own all marketing activities within the channel
  • The gravitas necessary to build strategic relationships at senior level in major companies within the channel
  • The creativity to identify new opportunities and develop successful partnerships within the channel
  • An understanding of the range of B2B sales involved in the channel and knowledge of how to sell to accounts ranging from small family firms to multinational businesses
  • The communication skills necessary to represent and speak on behalf of the Company at industry conferences and events
